VOLUNTEER

Life

Jestin was born and raised in Angola, Indiana.  After graduating from Angola High School in 1994, Jestin worked in several factories and restaurants in the area while attending International Business College in Ft Wayne where he received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting.

Shortly after graduation Jestin moved to Cape Canaveral, FL briefly before moving on to Nashville, TN eventually enrolling at Middle Tennessee State University and receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.

After college Jestin used his position in retail management with Barnes & Noble to transfer to Fort Lauderdale, FL.  He left B&N after receiving a job offer with Spiegel & Utrera, PA, a mid-sized law firm in the Coral Gables neighborhood of Miami where he worked as the Administrative Assistant to the firm’s owner.

While working with Spiegel & Utrera, Jestin met his wife, Irma.  The couple married in 2007 and soon after gave birth to the first of their two daughters, Lilian.  That same year, Jestin began working for Mirabel Technologies, a remote position in the tech field that would allow him to relocate as needed.

Shortly after the birth of Lilian, the family moved to Fishers, IN where they lived for a little over a year before relocating to Huntington Beach, CA where Irma was offered a position at a law firm.

In 2010 the couple had their second daughter, Ella, and   Irma became the managing partner at the Law Offices of Thomas Kerns McKnight in Irvine, CA.

The family lived in California for a little over 10 years before deciding to sell their home and move on.  They arrived in Indiana to spend the summer with family and friends before deciding a European working vacation was in order.  They enrolled the girls in a virtual academy and headed to Spain for a few months, set up a home base in Barcelona, and traveled throughout the region with stops in Italy, France, Greece, Andorra, and Mallorca before returning to Angola just as Covid began spreading through Europe.

Upon returning the Colers purchased a home at Lake Gage and are happy to call Angola home (again).

Family

Jestin’s wife, Irma, emigrated from Peru and was granted political asylum.  She is a Syracuse Law graduate and is licensed to practice law in multiple states.  Her law firm, the Law Office of Irma Coler focuses primarily on bankruptcy and immigration.  She is also an of-counsel attorney for Thomas Kerns McKnight, LLP (on top of being a very active mother).

Jestin’s children, Ella and Lilian, are both students at Fremont Middle School (Go, Eagles!).

Jestin’s mother, Jacquelyn “Jake” Wahlig was born and raised in Angola.  She worked a majority of her career in the field of law and has been a member of the Angola Parks & Recreation Board for 20+ years (a majority of which she has been President of the Board).  Jake’s husband, Steve, spent his working years as a middle/elementary school teacher with East Allen County Schools.  Both are now happily retired and living in Angola.

Jestin’s father, James “Jim” Coler, was raised in Orland.  Upon returning from Vietnam, Jim became the maintenance man of the Steuben County Courthouse and worked for the county until his retirement some 35 years later.  Jim’s wife, Leslie Coler, taught honors English at Fremont High School.  Both are happily retired and living in the Pleasant Lake area.

Career

Jestin has worked as the Director of Data for Mirabel Technologies, a software company specializing in software for magazine publishers, for nearly 15 years.  He oversees a staff of data engineers and manages approximately 700 databases.

In addition, Jestin is a respected expert on the subject of “Fake News” and has been a vocal critic of Facebook for its role in spreading harmful information.  He has been quoted in countless books on the subject of mis/disinformation, has spoken at length with journalist fellows at Harvard, MIT, and Stanford on the subject, has appeared on MSNBC, 60 Minutes, and the Dr. Oz Show was a keynote speaker at South by Southwest (SXSW) and is featured in the 2020 documentary Trust Me produced by award-winning documentarian Roko Belic.

Before working for Mirabel Technologies, Jestin was the Arts & Entertainment editor for a publishing group based in South Florida and a freelance writer.  His works have been published in Las Olas magazine, Living Real Miami, International Yachtsman, and City & Shore.

Jestin has also held positions in retail management (Barnes & Noble) and the field of law.
